The AWS Class ER308/308H MIG and TIG filler wire and rod is a stainless steel welding consumable crafted for both MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) applications. It’s perfect for austenitic stainless steels like Types 304, 304H, and 302. The “H” version has a bit more carbon (around 0.04–0.08%), which boosts its tensile and creep strength at higher temperatures while still offering fantastic corrosion resistance. You can use it for welding in any position, and it provides a stable arc and a smooth bead finish.
When it comes to typical weld metal composition, you’re looking at carbon 0.04–0.08%, chromium 19–21%, nickel 9–11%, manganese 1–2%, and silicon 0.3–0.7%. The mechanical properties are impressive too, with tensile strength hovering around 580–610 MPa, yield strength at about 275–310 MPa, and elongation between 30–40%. This means you get durable, corrosion-resistant welds that can handle high-temperature conditions.
