The AWS Class E310‑16 electrode is a top-notch stick welding electrode made from high-alloy stainless steel, specifically crafted for welding stainless steels like 310 and 310S. It shines when it comes to resisting oxidation and scaling, especially at high temperatures. With a rich blend of chromium (25–28%) and nickel (20–22%), it offers outstanding corrosion resistance and performs well under heat. Plus, its fully austenitic structure gives it great toughness. The “‑16” in its name means it can be used in all positions—flat, horizontal, vertical, and even overhead. Built to meet AWS A5.4/ASME SFA A5.4 standards, this electrode is perfect for tough industrial jobs where heat and corrosion resistance are a must.
When it comes to the typical weld metal composition, you’ll find carbon at 0.08–0.20%, chromium at 25–28%, nickel at 20–22%, manganese at 1.0–2.5%, silicon up to 0.75%, and both phosphorus and sulfur capped at ≤0.03%. Its mechanical properties are impressive too, boasting a tensile strength of around 425 MPa and an elongation of about 34%, which means it creates strong, durable, and heat-resistant welds. The coated design ensures a stable arc, smooth deposition, and reliable performance no matter the welding position or conditions.

AWS Class E310‑16 electrodes are commonly used in furnace parts, heat-treating equipment, high-temperature ducting, and in the petrochemical and power generation sectors. They’re also great for overlay or cladding applications where a high-alloy stainless steel deposit is needed. Additionally, they can join stainless steels to carbon or low-alloy steels, as long as you manage preheat and heat input properly. These electrodes are a go-to choice for projects that demand durability, oxidation resistance, and corrosion-resistant welded joints, especially in harsh, high-temperature industrial settings.
