The AWS Class E309LMo‑16 electrode is a specialized low-carbon, molybdenum-alloyed stainless steel stick welding electrode, perfect for welding stainless steels and for connecting stainless to carbon or low-alloy steels. It meets the AWS A5.4 / ASME SFA 5.4 standards and carries the UNS designation W30923. Thanks to its molybdenum content and low carbon, this electrode offers impressive resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and intergranular corrosion, making it a great choice for industrial and high-temperature applications. To achieve the best weld quality, especially when working with different metals, it’s essential to ensure proper cleaning, preheating, and control of interpass temperatures.
The typical composition of the weld metal includes carbon at ≤ 0.04%, chromium between 22–25%, nickel at 12–14%, molybdenum from 2–3%, manganese ranging from 0.5–2.5%, and silicon at 0.6–1%. In terms of mechanical properties, you can expect a tensile strength of around 520 MPa and an elongation of about 30%, which results in strong, corrosion-resistant welds that can handle tough service conditions.
